I had been thinking about this particular subject for a long time. It has always intrigued me when reading or talking about the subject of us being made in the image of God. In Genesis 1:26, God says "Let us make man in our image and likeness, and let them have dominion..." I believe God gave me a clear revelation of what he was saying. When God said this, He was not talking about creating man in His physical image but His characteristics. One way we are created in is image is through having dominion. God is the Sovereign ruler, and creator of all and we, under His authority, are gods(Psalms 82:6, John 10:34-35). We have dominion over all the earth.
Another wonderful way we are created in God's image or likeness is in our ability to SPEAK. No other creature on earth is capable of speaking intelligently. Only man! Since this is a way we have been created in Gods likeness or image, I think this is why we, as stated in Matthew 12:36, will be held accountable for every idle word spoken. Idle- Without purpose or effect; pointless. (Look at that definition!) Just because man failed to obey the Lord, doesn't mean God went back on what He put in us or created us to be (like Him). Satan is very well aware of this! Man can speak and things happen. There is another way man is created in God's image
Our ability to create. No other creature on this earth can create ! Satan can pervert what is already created, but he cannot create like God. That is another reason why he needs man. Those witty inventions and ideas that we come up with cannot be formed in the minds of any other creature on this planet. This goes for ALL mankind.
Nowhere in any translation of the bible will you see Genesis 1:26 written like this:"Let us make Asians, Germans, Africans, boys, girls, Russians and Indonesians in our image". This is the plan and purpose God has for ALL of mankind. So, remember, that person you are sitting next to is made in the image of God. That waitress or waiter serving you is made in the image of God. That person from another country, just because they don't look like you or talk like you, you may not even be able to understand them is made in the likeness of God just like you. That is enough to make you not look at them as inferior, but to praise the living God for His uniqueness, and greatness!
